Heart resuscitators have been installed on platforms at Stratford rail station in east London.

Seven have been given to Greater Anglia rail operators and installed around the complex including the Underground.

They deliver a shock to treat someone in cardiac arrest and can also monitor heart activity and give instructions to those using them.

All rail staff and members of the Transport Police at Stratford have been trained by the London Ambulance Service to use the lightweight machines.

It follows a survey to see what was needed with the increased numbers of passengers passing through the rail interchange during last summer’s Olympics and since the opening of the new Westfield shopping mall.
