A new health centre that opened its doors to patients in Poplar this summer was officially launched by a Tower Hamlets MP yesterday evening (Tuesday).

Jim Fitpatrick, who represents Poplar and Limehouse, unveiled a plaque at the Newby Health and Wellbeing Centre in Newby Place.

The centre contains two GP practices as well as offering various health services, such as district nursing, sexual health clinics, and language therapy.

Mr Fitpatrick said: “Newby Health and Wellbeing Centre is an excellent addition to our local area. It represents in a very tangible way the efforts that have been made by local people and the NHS to improve the health and wellbeing of the local community.”

Dr John Carrier, chairman of NHS North East London and the City, also attended the opening and said: “The centre is very convenient. It has a variety of health and wellbeing services located in the building - local people don’t need to go to the hospital for these services.”
