Nurses and doctors are using a new app on their smartphones at the Royal London Hospital to check medical care on their wards.
The app has been introduced by Barts NHS health trust to monitor care and put things right on the spot, freeing up time to spend with patients instead of having to do so much paperwork writing up and analysing their findings.
“We can check the things quickly and spot recurring trends at our fingertips,” Barts NHS Health chief nurse Caroline Alexander explains. “It makes things easier on wards for our staff to go through their regular checks.”
The technology covers basics such as patients having enough to drink and more complex data like assessing processes used to spot sepsis infections or bed ulcers.
Staff on wards can fix issues immediately using the app, while the results are uploaded onto the hospital trust’s main data computers where trends can be spotted and improvements to treatment made more quickly.
