The President of Singapore has been visiting the University of East London today to welcome the Singapore athletes.
President Tony Tan, who was greeted by UEL Vice-Chancellor Prof Patrick McGhee, toured the Stratford campus which is being used by Singapore’s national team as its recovery centre for the next two weeks.
Prof McGhee said: “Our partnership with Singapore will continue far beyond this summer.” He referred to UEL working with colleges in Singapore to develop the country’s higher education.
The Stratford campus has the Singapore athletes’ lounge and is providing accommodation for their medical staff during the Games, following an agreement with the Singapore Sports Council last year.
