A counselling service for people with mental health problems has launched in Tower Hamlets.

The Tower Hamlets Talking Therapies (THTT) offers counselling, psychological interventions for long-term conditions and special interventions for eating disorders.

It was launched by the East London Foundation Trust, and mental health charity, Mind in Tower Hamlets and Newham (MITHN). It’ll be used to help people with anxiety, phobias, extreme shyness, anger problems, relationship issues and bereavement.

The name was chosen by a focus group of local residents, and the service will be available to people registered with a Tower Hamlets GP or who live in the borough.

Sarah Wilson, director of specialist services at the ELFT, said: “The new service offers a wide range of psychological support to people in the borough. We provide similar services in Newham, Richmond and Bedfordshire so have developed extensive experience over time. We are looking forward to working with MITHN to develop a really effective service for local people.”
