Mental health nurses in Tower Hamlets yesterday picked up a national nursing award.

Hannah Bjorkstrand, Nasima Begum and Naz Islam, who work at the borough’s Primary Care Mental Health Service, were named winners of the RCNi Commitment to Carers award at a star-studded ceremony in central London.

Judges recognised their “outstanding” work setting up a hub for carers.

“We know the difference we’ve made as a team, but there is so much fantastic nursing working being done out there, so it’s such an honour to be recognised,” said Nasima.

“I hope the hard work continues and we can develop bigger things for carers, not just in my borough, but further afield.”

RCNi, part of the Royal College of Nursing union, say the awards recognise health workers who “go above and beyond to save lives”.
