Families are set to be warned about the dangers of Tuberculosis (TB) as part of a public health event about the lung disease which has made an unwelcome return to the East End.

TB is the second biggest global killer after HIV/Aids – despite being preventable and treatable - and five out of every 10,000 Tower Hamlets residents had the disease in 2011, according to the Health Protection Agency.

The public health event on Tuesday, April 2, will feature free health checks and talks by health professionals about how to spot the symptoms.

The event will be held at the Osmani Centre, Underwood Road, Whitechapel, from 10am until 2pm.
