Epileptic women are being urged to come forward for research aimed at finding the best way to control seizures during pregnancy.
Doctors and scientists at the Women’s Health Research Unit at Queen Mary University’s Whitechapel campus are hoping to recruit 1,000 women to help with the largest trial into treatments for pregnant women with epilepsy to date.
Many drugs used to treat the condition are unable to negate the increased risk of seizures during pregnancy.
Queen Mary’s Professor Shakila Thangaratinam said: “We have had overwhelming support and hope to recruit the 1,000 women we need for the trial as quickly as possible in order to get answers for these women and their doctors.”
To take part in the trial women should contact their local obstetrician or neurologist.
