CAMPAIGNERS against domestic violence in the home are meeting the public in the run-up to St Valentine’s Day on Saturday.
The domestic violence forum run by Tower Hamlets council in East London is setting up information stalls at public library centres to support those in fear of violent partners to help victims to report violence.
Trained staff are on hand to talk about issues and help anyone who thinks they may know a victim.
“One evening of romance on Valentine’s Day cannot make up for weeks, months or years of emotional or physical abuse,” said council cabinet member Abdal Ullah. “But there is support available for those suffering domestic violence.”
A Tower Hamlets helpline has been set up on 0800-279 5434, from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Out-of hours advice and to access a refuge is available from the National Domestic Violence helpline on 0800-200 0247.
The stall is being run at two Idea stores before Valentine’s Day, Canary Wharf noon-5pm on Thursday (Feb 12) and Whitechapel noon-5pm Friday. Two more are held at Poplar’s Chrisp Street 2-7pm on February 16 and at Bow in Roman Road 11am-4pm February 17.
