A YOUNG mum who was the victim of an attempted rape in East London has called for help in trying to catch her attacker.
The woman was ambushed on a quiet path near Mudchute DLR station at Millwall on the Isle of Dogs.
A teenager pushed over a buggy carrying her baby son and bundled her to the ground as she was on the way to meet friends at Mudchute Park city farm.
“I was in shock and completely terrified,” she said. “He pounced on me from behind, pulled me down to the ground and had his hands around my throat.”
He told the terrified woman he was going to rape her.
With her baby screaming in fear, the woman struggled with her attacker and fought him off. She managed to hit him as he ran off.
It was an incident that left her badly shaken and traumatised—but uninjured. She is determined not to be scared away.
“All the mums are in shock,” she continued. “But I’ve been here so many times and never felt threatened.
“There is no need to stay away from the park. Instead, we meet at the station and walk as a group.”
Mudchute Park and city farm has warned women not to walk alone along the path from the station as police have so far yet to catch the attacker, who struck around 3pm on July 13.
The suspect is white, 15 or 16 years old, 5ft 1in tall, with short sandy brown hair and skinny build. He wore light blue trousers with a navy blue hooded top.
Millwall’s neighbourhood police team has been carrying out high visibility’ patrols in the area to reassure the community.
