Leyton Orient boss Ian Hendon has admitted it would be great if he could spend some of the money the club will recuperate should former player Moses Odubajo complete a move to Hull City.

The former O’s winger departed Brisbane Road last summer to join Brentford in a deal believed to be worth £1 million.

Odubajo has since impressed for the Bees and his performances have alerted various Premier League sides, but it was Championship outfit Hull City who activated the 22-year-olds release clause last week.

They have bid £3.5 million for Odubajo and if that deal is completed, Orient are believed to receive 15 per cent of the transfer fee after having a sell-on clause inserted in the Brentford mans contract.

If that was the case Hendon may be given more money to work with and that could result in more players joining the O’s squad.

“To me the Moses Odubajo money is not in the equation, I took the job and the chairman told me what my budget was and what was involved,” said the Orient head coach.

“If he wants to give me some of that money I will be delighted to spend it, but that is up to the chairman. I am not counting on anything from that, if I get some it will be a bonus, but I am quite happy with what I have got and really looking forward to next week now.

“I can’t see why more players won’t join before the transfer window shuts, it is pretty obviously the one we have been looking at (Jack Payne).

“We are still trying to do a deal with Peterborough, but there could still be one or two more that come in.”

Hendon insists he is happy with the current squad he has, but Peterborough’s Jack Payne watched the O’s yesterday (Sunday) to increase the rumours that he is going to complete a move to Brisbane Road soon.

The former Posh captain went with Orient to their training camp in Spain last month and spoke at length with a number of the players yesterday after watching them beat Southend 1-0 at Roots Hall.

But the Brisbane Road boss admitted a deal is yet to be agreed with Payne’s parent club despite negotiations taking place for the last few weeks.

“We will see how it goes, but at the moment I am very happy with my squad,” added Hendon.

“They are all pulling in the right direction and all together and we have got a good dressing room.

“Jack Payne was here at Southend. Connor Essam is godfather to his son so he was here to watch Connor and he has got a couple of mates out there in Sammy Moore as well.

“He is not sitting on his bum on a Sunday afternoon, he is out watching football, which tells you what the lad is about. As I have said before, if we can do something we will.”

It seems likely that any deal to bring Payne to Brisbane Road could hinge on whether Odubajo completes a move to Hull or any other club in the near future.
