Brisbane Road manager relishing local clash on Saturday and wants lots of Orient fans in the away end

Leyton Orient boss Ian Hendon is looking forward to locking horns with Dagenham & Redbridge this weekend and coming up against their manager Wayne Burnett.

The O’s make the short trip to Victoria Road on Saturday for an east London derby with Daggers.

Although they were beaten 2-1 by MK Dons on Tuesday, Orient will be confident of a positive result this weekend and keeping up their promotion charge.

Hendon said: “By the sounds of it there will be a full house. There is a rivalry there, I know Wayne and their assistant Warren Hackett very well, so it will be good to lock horns with them.

“I’m really looking forward to the game and if we continue to perform like we have done in our first two matches I am sure we will be okay on Saturday.

“We had Dagenham watched on Tuesday at Charlton. We know what we need to be doing and we’ll worry about ourselves and getting our boys recovered for the game.”

Hendon will come up against another good friend on Tuesday as Stevenage, now managed by Teddy Sheringham, visit Brisbane Road.

It will pit the two former West Ham coaches against each other for the first time as managers, but the immediate focus for the O’s is Saturday’s local derby.

Both east London teams lost in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday, Daggers going down 4-1 to Charlton Athletic and Orient suffering late heartbreak against the Dons.

Hendon believes the support of the away fans could be key on Saturday with over 1,200 tickets sold to the O’s faithful.

He added: “Come Saturday, if we put the MK Dons performance in again we will get a result against Dagenham.

“I hope there are more Orient fans than home fans. We have had a good end to pre-season and the first two performances for me have been very promising.

“Yes we are disappointed to be out of the cup but the lads have been working very hard. The MK Dons game is done, we are out of the cup that is it. We have a few league games to concentrate on and that is top of our agenda.”

Paul McCallum scored on his league debut for the O’s last weekend and he’ll hope to make the derby date at Victoria Road.

Hendon said: “Paul has been carrying a little knock so we had to leave him at home on Tuesday to rest because when Saturday comes he is very important and we want him fit for Dagenham.”
