Brisbane Road boss discusses win, Mathieu Baudry’s fitness and Jobi McAnuff’s future

Leyton Orient head coach Ian Hendon paid credit to his team after watching them brush rivals Dagenham & Redbridge aside with ease at Victoria Road this afternoon.

Paul McCallum and Lloyd James put them two-goals up at half time before Dean Cox extended that advantage with a breathtaking free kick in the second period.

Jamie Cureton pulled one back during injury time but it was O’s day and their supporters certainly enjoyed themselves in east London.

The Brisbane Road boss was delighted with their performance, adding: “Credit to the players and the staff. We keep at them all day, every day and they are doing it on a Saturday and taking it on board. They are doing what we are telling them and the results are coming.

“It could have been more. I always look at the critical side of things and Alex has made a couple of good saves early in the second half when it was 3-0.

“If they go in it could have changed the game a little bit but I suppose that is his job, he is there to keep them out. We had a few chances but it wasn’t an easy game by any stretch.

“We like clean sheets. The defenders like clean sheets as does the goalkeeper and being an ex-defender myself we pride ourselves on not conceding goals.

“That was the only disappointment of the game today, but one of the lads in there has held his hand up and said it was his fault so we live and learn and move on.”

Jobi McAnuff wasn’t involved and Hendon confirmed afterwards he is trying to help the winger move to a Championship club.

The Jamaican has been training with Blackburn Rovers this week and seems set to depart Orient shortly.

“I think it is out there where Jobi is and as I said before. I started pre-season with a squad of players that I was happy with and nothing has changed,” said Hendon.

“Jobi has come back into the club and trained and there is no issue with myself and Jobi. If the lad can go and play in the Championship why would you stop him.

“If he can go and get fixed up there then brilliant and good luck to him. I will try and help him do that if that is what he wants.”

The Orient boss now switches his focus to Tuesday’s clash at Brisbane Road with Stevenage and he hopes captain Mathieu Baudry is available.

He limped off in the second half and was replaced by Alan Dunne, but should be fine for the O’s next match.

“Mathieu looks like he has twisted his ankle, we will have to wait and see,” added Hendon. “He is in the changing room on ice so we will give him every chance for Tuesday.”
