Orient move up to third in League Two after Sammy Moore’s double and the Brisbane Road boss hailed the midfielder after the match

Leyton Orient head coach Ian Hendon was pleased to see his side bounce back from the disappointment of conceding so soon after half time and go on to claim all three points against Notts County.

Sammy Moore bagged a brace, one in the first period and a stunner towards the end of the game at Brisbane Road to confirm a 3-1 win for the hosts.

County equalised within a minute of the interval through Jon Stead, but Jay Simpson tapped in following a good move 10 minutes from time and the O’s were able to seal a first success in League Two since August 29.

Hendon praised the battling qualities of his team, he said: “It was tough today, that wasn’t an easy game at all.

“They were big and strong and they made a lot of changes from their team on Tuesday evening against Dagenham & Redbridge so it goes to show how big a squad they have got and what a good squad they have got.

“Our lads matched them physically, we give a little bit away in the height and size department, but I was really pleased with how we battled.”

Hendon praised the second goal by Moore and also discussed the blow the midfielder took a little while before his late strike.

It seemed like the former AFC Wimbledon man wouldn’t be able to continue after pulling up, but he carried on and then sealed the three points with a stunning effort.

“The second was special. He hit one at Cambridge which got tipped over deep into injury time so he has got that in the locker and let’s hope he gets a few more,” added Hendon.

“He got a whack on his knee, I think he tweaked it so we will have to see how all the boys are on in the morning and patch them up ready for next week.”

The O’s boss conceded the goal the Magpies scored just after half time was clever play by one time England international Alan Smith.

Smith played a free kick quickly out to away substitute Adam Campbell and he ran at the Orient defence before teeing up Stead to score.

Hendon was happy with the way his side hit back, however, and insisted he always knew his team could score again a second, which they duly did.

“We just went in at half time and said let’s stay solid and the plan went to pot within a minute of the second half. We got caught out,” admitted the Brisbane Road head coach.

“The free kick was taken quickly by Alan Smith, who is an experienced, intelligent footballer. He played it in behind, they got in and Jon Stead scored.

“It was a disappointing start to the second period, but we regrouped and it was a bit bitty at times, but I keep saying as long as we are in matches we will create chances, which we have in the previous four, and it was just a matter of time before we took them.”
