O’s boss discusses this evening’s clash with Stevenage, the fans support and the good start to the season

Leyton Orient head coach Ian Hendon has called on his team to replicate the performance they put in against Dagenham & Redbridge when they host Stevenage tonight (Tuesday).

Teddy Sheringham brings his Borough side to Brisbane Road for the third League Two clash of the campaign.

It is a fixture that will pit two former West Ham coaches against each other, but Hendon is keen to focus on his team.

He said: “I said to the boys after the Dagenham game they have started the season well, it is a good performance and another win.

“Now we look forward to Tuesday, that is the next game so a quick turnaround and we need to try and perform the same again against Stevenage.

“We shared the same office last year, me and Teddy, so I am looking forward to having a battle with him. I am not surprised he has taken a job in League Two.

“Management is something he wants to do and you have to get your grounding somewhere if that is the path you want to follow. He has got a good club there in Stevenage.”

Hendon, Sheringham and Neil McDonald, Sam Allardyce’s assistant at West Ham last season, have all taken jobs in League One and Two.

Orient’s boss believes that shouldn’t surprise people and he also discussed how Stevenage will play at Brisbane Road this evening.

“Myself, Teddy and Neil McDonald have all made the decision to get into the game,” added Hendon.

“It is what we want to do, we want to be managers and you have to make your mark wherever you get the opportunity.

“I think anyone that knows Teddy knows his teams are going to play football. It should hopefully be a good footballing game.

“We had them watched on Saturday against Newport County so we have got all the reports and we have done our work on them.”

Last weekend against Dagenham, the Orient faithful were chanting Hendon’s name on various occasions – showing their support for the new man in the Brisbane Road hot seat.

He conceded it was pleasing to hear, but reiterated it is all about the club and not individuals this year.

“It is nice to hear them sing my name but it’s not the support of me but the support of the team and club which is really pleasing,” added Hendon.

“I keep saying that it does make a difference when they are as noisy as they are. I’m glad at the moment we’re repaying them with some good football and some good results.”

Hendon will hope those good performances and results carry on against Stevenage tonight and if they do, Orient could find themselves top.
