Brisbane Road boss frustrated with FA Cup exit and insists Jay Simpson will remain at the club in January

Leyton Orient head coach Ian Hendon felt the timing of the Scunthorpe United goals was key after his side were knocked out of the FA Cup at Glanford Park.

The O’s dominated the opening 45, but the Iron took the lead in the 55th minute when Jean-Yves M’voto deflected in Neal Bishop’s shot.

It was two minutes later when home captain Jack King bundled the ball in from a corner kick.

Orient faced a huge uphill battle then and couldn’t get back in the game and Hakeeb Adelakun slotted in the third deep into stoppage time.

Hendon conceded the second goal coming so quick after the opener was a huge blow and admitted the mistake that led to the first was very frustrating.

“I think when we concede the first goal we conceded, which was poor on our part. It was a mistake and they punished us,” said the Orient boss.

“Then they get the second so quickly, I think it knocks the stuffing out of us. It took the wind out of our sails and it was always going to be difficult to get back in the game after that.

“We want to win every game we play as simple as that. We will have to pick the players up and get them ready for Saturday because now that is an important game and a must win for me against Yeovil Town.

“We need to turn some of these draws in the league into wins and it is important we do that on Saturday.”

Hendon admitted Orient were disappointed with their second half performance, but was certain the players would be lifted by the time Saturday comes around.

Yeovil visit Brisbane Road and although they are struggling at the bottom of the League Two table, they’ll be fighting for their lives.

“It is my job to pick them up. We are obviously very disappointed with our second half performance and there is a lot of thinking to be done,” added Hendon.

“I need to pick those players up. It is not the end of the world. We have lost a game of football. Yes it was a massive prize, but we have Yeovil on Saturday and it has always been about trying to get promoted.”

The O’s boss also revealed he has told the president Francesco Becchetti that he wants to bring players to the club in January.

But he doesn’t expect to have to replace top goalscorer Jay Simpson, who has 16 goals already this season.

Hendon added: “I am most definitely looking to bring players in during January. It may have been easier had we won tonight, but I have spoken to the owner and he is aware that I want to sign some players.

“If teams are looking at Jay it would be a considerable amount of money if anyone was to make an offer and he would have to be replaced, but as far as I am concerned nobody has come in for him yet and he is our player.”
