Bells to ring out across Tower Hamlets

PUBLISHED: 10:38 14 June 2012

The chime of bells will be heard across the East End next weekend as part of Tower Hamlets’ High Street 2012 initiative.

Artmusic’s Ring Ring Bell project is one of 17 projects commissioned by Tower Hamlets council to celebrate East London life, and has involved the recording of a variety of different bell sounds.

The Ring Ring Bell project finale will see a bell-ringing procession along Mile End Road, starting at Queen Mary University.

This will be followed by the screening of a film made as part of the project by former Queen Mary student and Mile End resident Bronwen Bradshaw.

Composer and lead artist Helen Ottaway said: “Ring Ring Bell is essentially a recording project but we always wanted to end with a burst of live ringing. Whether or not you’ve been involved in the project so far, bring your bell along and join in the ringing.”

The event will be held on Saturday June 23, and will commence at 4.30pm. The film screeening and live performances will take place in Queen Mary’s Octagon Hall, starting at 5.30.
