Four medieval knights are set to mount their horses and do battle in a jousting tournament at Eltham Palace and Gardens in Greenwich later this month.

Each knight will represent one of the four corners of England, and will take part in two jousts wearing 50lbs of armour and using wooden lances.

The event will also feature a knights’ training school for children, who will be able to compete in their own mini-jousting tournaments. Other entertainments on offer include a medieval jester, who will perform acrobatic and fire tricks.

Lucy Hutchings, events manager for English Heritage, said: “The medieval joust offers a great day out for families, it’s not only fun, but also provides a great education for children about the medieval era, and also what life was like during the period. There is music, falconry displays and much more.”

The event will take place on the weekend of June 23-24. Tickets may be purchased on the door, or by calling 0870 333 1183.
