Leyton Orient assistant manager Andy Hessenthaler conceded his team need players with the experience of Jobi McAnuff after the draw with Yeovil Town today.

The O’s need the Jamaican international to come off the bench to inspire them to earn a 1-1 draw against the Glovers.

Ian Hendon’s side delivered an uncharacteristic performance at Brisbane Road as they looked sluggish and lacking confident.

But McAnuff, introduced in the 55th minute, earned them a point by smashing in the equaliser from 30-yards with 16 minutes left.

Unfortunately Orient weren’t able to push on to get the three points and Hessenthaler admitted they need more players with McAnuff’s experience.

He said: “A 34-year-old has come on and changed the game with his experience. He sees a pass and reads the game.

“That’s what we said to them in the changing room. He has been through it and has got great knowledge of the game and you could tell that out there. We need more people like him.

“We didn’t play him today because we felt he was a little bit leggy in the week against Scunthorpe so we thought we could get through today without him and get a nice win and then he would be nice and fresh for the boxing day game, but we have brought him on and he has nearly won the game for us in the end.”

Like they had done during the week against Scunthorpe, a string of errors caused the opening goal of the game.

Frazer Shaw was disposed inside his own half and Jean-Yves M’voto sliced a clearance which allowed Francois Zoko to head in the opener.

Orient’s number two conceded it wasn’t good enough and reflected on the nine draws they have earned in the division this season.

Hessenthaler added: “It just wasn’t good enough and that’s been our problem and that’s why we keep drawing too many games because we keep making individual errors and we are getting punished for it.

“Why that is? I don’t know, we need to find out why that is and get it right because today there were a little bit of nerves out there.

“Confidence is a little bit low because we are not winning games and we’ve been drawing too many, who knows, but we are on a run now. Alright we have only lost five games in 22, but we have drawn far too many.

“We need to win games like this today. If we think we are going to get promoted as a group of people we need to win games like this today and we didn’t.”

After the defeat to Scunthorpe on Tuesday night, Hendon conceded the clash with Yeovil was a “must-win” game for him.

With the O’s failing to pick up all three points against the Glovers, Hessenthaler was asked if he expects anything to happen as a consequence of Orient not winning.

He added: “Who knows if their will be consequences. I can’t answer that question. As a coaching team we are not happy about today. Whether their will be consequences I can’t answer that questions.”
