WAR is being waged on hospital super bugs’ with a tough new disinfectant cocktail’ being tested in London’s East End.
NHS bosses at the Royal London are carrying out a three-month trial of the super cleaning fluid to combat infection acquired in wards.
Dr Arthur Tucker, Principal clinical scientist leading the research project, said: “We are looking at the overall effectiveness in killing bugs.”
FLUID
The tough cleaning fluid has a cocktail of biocides which kill microbes even in small quantities, which could be used as an alternative to steam cleaning.
The Barts & The London NHS trust, which also runs St Bartholomew’s in the City and the London Chest in Bethnal Green, was told earlier this year that it had to improve how it controls MRSA and C.Difficile. Otherwise, it was warned, the Care Quality Commission would slap enforcement orders including fines.
