TWO new hotels are planned in East London by a major chain ready for the 2012 Olympics.

The leisure group Whitbread is to open Premier Inn hotels at Whitechapel and at Greenwich where previously there would have been office or residential development.

A hotel with 325 room is planned with a restaurant in Leman-street, off Whitechapel High Street, near Aldgate, just four stops on the London Underground to the Olympic site at Stratford. The second, smaller hotel at Greenwich, with a direct link to Stratford on the DLR, will have 136 rooms.

The two sites are part of a £100 million acquisition deal for nine commercial properties which had been set aside for office schemes, but will now be turned over to new hotels by 2012.
