A residential block with a Tesco store, which caused controversy over its height, is starting to rise on Bow’s Roman Road.
The residential block, which will consist of five buildings, up to ten stories high, is expected to be completed in February 2014. But the first residents will start moving in from September next year.
A Tesco Metro will be housed on the ground floor of the block, which stands on the site of the former Safeway.
The block will have a total of 208 homes made up of one, two and three bedroom flats.
The homes will be managed by Old Ford Housing Association and Circle Living.
A spokeswoman said: “We’ll be handing the store building over to Tesco in April of next year.”
The development will also have 34 ground level parking spaces, four of which are disabled bays, for shoppers. The buildings’s basement will have 74 spaces for resident parking.
