A bank worker from Canary Wharf is believed to have been killed in the horrific terrorist attack on London Bridge in which at least seven people died.

HSBC analyst Ignacio Echeverria used his skateboard as a weapon against a knife-wielding killer as he tried to save a woman from being attacked, it has emerged.

He was last seen on Saturday night lying on the pavement after confronting one of the attackers and today his family said they had been told he had died.

His father, Joaquin Echeverria, said that British authorities had not shared any information with them, but his son’s employer had provided the services of a private detective to help with their search.

Mr Echeverria, a 39-year-old Spaniard who lived in Poplar, tried to save a woman as he returned from a skateboarding park nearby.

His sister Isabel had launched a social media appeal for help to trace Ignacio after failing to find him following calls to hospitals, the police and the Spanish embassy.

Khuram Shazad Butt, 27, and Rachid Redouane, 30, both from Barking, and 22-year-old Youssef Zaghba, from east London, used a van to mow down pedestrians on London Bridge before getting out and stabbing people in Borough Market.

All three were shot dead by armed police.

Ignacio was leaving the area around Borough Market on a hired bike with friends when he saw a man attacking the woman with a knife, according to his older brother Joaquin Echeverria.

Ignacio got off the bike and hit the man with his skateboard when “it seems another terrorist hit him”.

Friends saw him in the distance fallen down on the ground.

Canadian Chrissy Archibald, 30, and Australian Kirsty Boden, 28, have been formally named as two of the dead while the family of 32-year-old Hackney resident James McMullan, who has been missing since Saturday night, believe he has also been killed.

French media have named Alexandre Pigeard, 27, from France, as a victim and the family of Australian Sara Zelenak have said she also died in the attack.
