Ice Sculpture Festival winners pay tribute to “incredible” London
THE Portuguese winners of this year’s Ice Sculpture Festival said their London design expressed their “love for this incredible city”.
Pedro Mira and Niall Magee took the crown from Holland, which won the award for the ‘Love London’ themed competition at the festival, held at Canada Park Square over the weekend.
Mr Magee, senior sculptor for the Portuguese team, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have won the competition. We know most of the carvers here and they’re all fantastic sculptors.”
They competed against leading artists in the field from France, Holland, Portugal, Hungary, Africa and Britain.
More than five tons of ice – from water which is expertly filtered and frozen to ensure crystal clear blocks – was used during the three competitions.
