Iceland set to take over East End Woolies sites

IT has just been revealed that supermarket chain Iceland will be taking over all three former Woolworth stores in Tower Hamlets. The frozen food chain announced this afternoon that it has bought 51 Woolworth stores including the outlets in Bethnal Green,

THE Iceland frozen food chain will be taking over all three former Woolworth stores in London's East End, it has just been disclosed.

The company announced this afternoon (Friday) that it has bought 51 Woolworth stores including Bethnal Green, Bow and Poplar.

Marketing Director Nick Canning said: "We look forward to becoming part of the local community in 2009."

The move is expected to create 2,500 jobs across the country over the coming year.

The stores in Bethnal Green Road, Roman Road and Crisp Street Market are currently empty following their closures last week.
