An international investment specialist bank has won the ‘Community Impact’ category in the prestigious 2012 Business Charity awards for its social investment in London’s East End helping improve health and the unemployed to get jobs.

The Investec Group fought off competition from other big-name businesses to claim the prize for its four-year partnership with the Bromley-by-Bow centre.

It has put 300,000 into projects since 2008 and has pledged a further 200,000 for enterprise start-ups in the coming year.

Bank and investment staff volunteer at the centre, helping people set up social businesses and supporting the disabled and those with long-term mental health conditions.

The Bromley centre, in one of the most deprived areas of Britain, supports families, youngsters and adults of all ages to learn new skills, improve their health, find jobs and develop self-confidence.
