Lifesaving CPR techniques have been taught to staff at Asda in the Isle of Dogs.
The store is one of 32 in and around London which have received a defibrillator and training as part of the supermarket chain’s partnership with the British Heart Foundation.
Jim Fitzpatrick, MP for Poplar and Limehouse, also joined last month’s colleague training session led by St John Ambulance.
Kate Main, from Asda’s Community Team, said: “We’re really proud of our relationship with the British Heart Foundation and want the people in London’s communities to have the best chance of survival if cardiac arrest strikes.”
Asda will roll-out defibrillators across 568 of its stores and 25 depots and offices nationwide by the end of the year.
More than 60,000 people suffer a cardiac arrest outside of hospital every year in the UK and only one in ten people survive.
