THE recession has even hit the Isle of Dogs own space programme, it would seem.
These young space cadets’ ready to explore the Solar System are having to make their own rockets and build their own Lunar landscapes before they can even take off—using recycled materials to keep costs down.
But that was all part of the fun for youngsters who landed at Canary Wharf’s Idea store on Sunday for a children’s Lunar workshop, part of Tower Hamlets council’s summer activity programme.
RECYCLED CARDBOARD
The staff are running a series of Infinity and Beyond Art’ Sunday workshops through August, using old boxes and plastic bottles they have been collecting for the past six months.
“The programme aims to let the kids’ creative juices flow,” explained the Town Hall.
“Some of them really want to land on the moon. That would be a first for the Isle of Dogs.”
The staff gave the kids plenty of recycled cardboard and a pot of glue to put together their super space structures.
Two more Lunar’ shots are planned at the store in Canary Wharf over the next two Sundays, with a 2-4pm window for launching.
