Jack and Olivia were the most popular baby names of 2009, it has emerged.

Jack, the moniker of Messrs Tweed, Nicholson and Straw, retained its title for the 15th year on the trot.

Olivia secured a second successive stint as the girls' favourite, having taken over from Grace in 2008, according to a national survey of 580,000 babies born in 2009 by the Bounty parenting club.

Highest 'climbers' this year were Lucas, 24 places up to make number 15, and Maisie, up 29 to 41.

Layla also scored well, up 21 places to 46, while Lexi leapt 18 slots to 43. Sienna, the name of movie stunner Sienna Miller, was up 15 places from last year. Lola rose 10 notches and Madison seven.

The boys list saw Sebastian, Joel, Oscar, Noah, Aiden, Logan and Archie getting more popular.

Faye Mingo, spokeswoman for Bounty, said: "Parents are influenced by popular culture and celebrity trends in films, sports and TV.

"The rise in popularity of 'Lucas' could well be down to the EastEnders' preacher-turned-murder character played by Don Gilet."

This year's male losers on the Bounty List include Rhys, Ryan, Alex, Matthew and Kieran which have fallen significantly in popularity, while female losers included Caitlin, Rebecca, Eve, Abbie and Hannah.
