A child volunteer has been recognised for her charity work on an urban farm in Stepney.
Rebecca Postle received a £250 Jack Petchey Achievement Award grant on Monday for mucking in at Stepney City Farm.
The 12-year-old has taken part in the plot in Stepney Way’s Young Volunteers programme for more than six months, proving herself to be an invaluable member of the sessions.
Judges praised her “perseverance and ‘can do’ attitude” following the awards ceremony at the Shaw Theatre in Camden.
“Rebecca has often been the first person at the gate in the morning, ready and willing to do any job needed to help get set up and has been a fantastic help throughout the events,” they said.
The selfless schoolgirl decided to spend the money on equipment for the farm including seeds, wood and turf for a rabbit run.
Award-winners were nominated by their peers and leaders for achievements big and small.
