James Brophy concedes all of the Leyton Orient squad must step it up after suffering a frustrating 1-0 loss at home to Macclesfield Town on Saturday.

The O’s created a handful of decent chances at Brisbane Road, but didn’t take them and switched off at the other end to concede on the stroke of half time thanks to Scott Wilson’s header.

Steve Davis called on his Orient players to stop being inconsistent after they failed to build on the 1-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday.

Brophy, who made a positive impact after coming on in the 59th minute, said: “A lot of the boys were disappointed with the result and we all said the same thing.

“The gaffer hasn’t really tinkered too much with it. A lot of the boys have played week in, week out and we just need a bit more from everyone and even the ones on the edge of it.

“We need to be producing more in training to keep the standards up and ensure we don’t come away with any more of these type of results.”

Swindon Town loanee Brophy believes O’s have to improve in both attack and defence, though did acknowledge if they are failing to take their opportunities, they’ve got to take more pride in keeping a clean sheet.

After keeping two shut-outs against Dagenham, it appeared Orient had taken a step in the right direction at the back, but they allowed Macclesfield too many chances on Saturday.

Brophy added: “We need to work on both (attack and defence) because we know the tactic away teams have is to come here and sit deep and let us control the game.

“We know we need to be better with our chances and finish more, but if we’re not, we need to take more pride when it comes to keeping a clean sheet.”

Saturday turned out to be a good afternoon for Macclesfield goalkeeper Sam Ramsbottom, who made his debut for the club off the bench.

The youngster replaced former Orient loanee Shwan Jalal after he suffered a knock to the head in the 19th minute.

Ramsbottom went on to deny David Mooney, James Dayton, Macauley Bonne with the trio all having more than one effort saved by the substitute stopper.

But Brophy admitted: “We needed to do more to test him because their first choice goalkeeper obviously came off.

“He made a few good saves, but we’ve dominated and created enough to win the game.”

Yet again it was a case of deja vu for Orient, but when will it end? The O’s will hope on Tuesday when Gateshead visit Brisbane Road.

Davis might have Jobi McAnuff (groin) and Matt Harrold (calf) back after both missed the FA Cup games with Dagenham.

“We are thankful we have the Tuesday game and we have some boys coming back from injury,” said Brophy.

“Hopefully it will enable the gaffer to have a selection headache and give him some different options in different positions.”
