The old market square in Poplar is going back six decades to the Swing era and its Festival of Britain roots on Sunday.
Swingers can dust off their dancing shoes and shimmy onto the floor at Poplar’s Chrisp Street Market for another Swing East music festival of lindy hopping, jitterbugging and jiving from 12-noon to 7pm.
The annual hellraiser comes with a vintage market complete with retro clothes, accessories, homewares and selection of vintage cars.
Real ales, cocktails, food stalls, face-painting and a fun-fair is also being laid on by Poplar Harca Housing to make it a day out for everyone.
This year’s Swing East has the 14-piece Palace Avenue Dance Orchestra swinging back to 1951 when the market opened during the Festival of Britain and even further back to the Swing era of the 1930s with a mix of Hepcat Swing, Jumpin’ Rhythm and Blues and Red Hot Boogie.
