National League: Guiseley 1 Leyton Orient 3

Jobi McAnuff’s fourth and fifth goals of the campaign for Leyton Orient earned the club a 3-1 victory at Guiseley which should guarantee their place in the National League for another season.

The experienced winger, who has captained the O’s since Justin Edinburgh took over, led from the front in Yorkshire and helped them secure another three points.

It is back-to-back wins for Orient now and they are up to 50 points with six fixtures left this season.

Edinburgh made only one change from the side which saw off Woking 3-0 last weekend as Dan Holman started in place of the injured Matt Harrold.

Myles Judd returned to the bench while young goalkeeper Arthur Janata was also selected with Charlie Grainger absent due to his partner giving birth earlier today.

Orient started brightly at Nethermoor Park and Macauley Bonne test home custodian Luke Coddington with an early volley before he drilled wide in the fourth minute.

Guiseley threatened with 23 minutes on the clock, but former O’s loanee Rowan Liburd headed over.

Two more opportunities were created just before the half an hour mark when Bonne latched onto George Elokobi’s clearance, but could only fire into the side netting.

The Lions’ Dayle Southwell tested Dean Brill moments later, but Orient’s number one saved well.

Brill did have a scare six minutes before half time though when Alex Purver’s cross decided him, but the visitors back four cleared the danger.

Orient captain Jobi McAnuff then saw a looping shot drop wide after good play by Holman, as it ended goalless at the break.

After starting some recent second half’s poorly, O’s certainly came out with a bang this time.

Bonne was played through on goal and Guiseley goalkeeper Coddington brought him down and a red card was shown to the stopper.

Joe Green came on for former Southend United winger Kevan Hurst and his first task was to line up the wall for a free kick just outside the area.

It didn’t matter how big the wall was though, it wasn’t enough to prevent McAnuff curling into the top corner with 48 played.

Orient threatened again when Holman crossed in for Bonne, but his glancing header was easy for substitute goalkeeper Green.

Edinburgh made his first change on the hour mark with David Mooney replacing Holman and the forward almost immediately made it 2-0.

Sam Ling’s long throw was controlled by the substitute and he finished well, but it was ruled off for an adjudged handball.

O’s continued to push for another as James Brophy’s cross caused the home team problems before Ling fired over.

Eventually the second goal arrived with quarter of an hour remaining when McAnuff brought the ball forward before drilling low past Green.

At 2-0, the points looked secured for Orient, but a bizarre own-goal handed Guiseley a chance.

Joe Widdowson passed the ball back to Brill and it hit a bobble and went over the foot of the goalkeeper and found the net.

Edinburgh immediately reacted in an attacking sense by introducing Josh Koroma for Adams with 14 to go in Yorkshire.

It was almost 3-1 with 85 on the clock when Craig Clay did well and found Bonne, but Green denied him.

Four minutes of stoppage time were added on at the end of the 90 and at the death a fourth goal of the game occurred and fortunately for O’s it went to them.

Brophy broke well and squared for substitute Mooney to tap home and wrap up the three points.

Orient have moved up to 12th with this victory and now have 50 points – nine ahead of the bottom four ahead of hosting Maidenhead United on Monday.
