Winger reflects on his time at the club and how good it is to see loyal staff happy

Jobi McAnuff believes Leyton Orient have the right blend of youth and experience to make sure the future of the club is bright.

The 35-year-old was one of 14 new arrivals at Brisbane Road this summer, which was needed as O’s were left with a squad virtually full of teenagers.

McAnuff, of course, is already familiar with most of the youngsters still present in E10, but feels the recent recruits can help bring out the best of them.

He said: “We have a lot of good characters here and lads that are going to help the younger lads through, which is massively important given they have still got a lot of learning to do and it is up to us to help bring that talent out and nurture it.

“At the same time while we are doing that, we need to get results on the pitch and I think we have a nice blend and good mix.

“I am sure the youngsters will appreciate that extra help likewise I am sure we will appreciate their youth and exuberance at certain stages, so hopefully we get that blend right and it is certainly a good place to be.”

The former Jamaican international also praised the impact of new owners Nigel Travis and Kent Teague.

Since the pair took over from Francesco Becchetti in June, a feel-good factor has engulfed Brisbane Road.

It has remained despite some disappointing away results this season and McAnuff is most pleased for O’s loyal staff.

“The feel around the club is great and definitely different compared to my previous time here,” said the ex-Reading captain.

“I think the cloud feels like it is away from the place and it was a real breath of fresh air walking back in with people smiling.

“Staff have worked really hard in very difficult circumstances and had to endure very negative and disappointing times, but I am glad to see them happy.

“What we have now is people in charge who want to move forward together and as long as we have got that we’ll have half a chance.”
