The experienced former Reading captain revealed his determination to make Brisbane Road a tough place to visit next season

Jobi McAnuff has thanked the Leyton Orient fans for their support during the 2017/18 season and praised their patience.

The O’s ended the campaign with a flourish – winning five of their last eight National League games to finish in 13th place.

While things have improved drastically under Justin Edinburgh, since his appointment on November 29, there was a time when Orient looked in the mire.

Steve Davis was sacked on November 14 after an 11-match run without a win in the league and it was extended to 15 games by the time O’s defeated Sutton United back on December 9.

McAnuff has not forgotten the backing the team received from the majority of fans during that period and is determined to repay them with a successful 2018/19 campaign and a good season of home form.

“It is vital we win at Brisbane Road regularly. We have seen how much it means to teams this year to come here and get a point, let alone three,” said the 36-year-old winger.

“We have to use that moving forward and we have been very fortunate this year that because of everything that has happened in the past, I feel personally we have been afforded this season to re-establish.

“The fans have been great and stuck with us and in certain times they had every right not to stick with us, but they have been great and we have now had this year and we know what this league is about.

“We know what teams are going to do when they come to Brisbane Road next season and hopefully we will get the pitch sorted during the summer because as much as I never like to make excuses, and we both have to play on it, that hasn’t helped.

“I know the pitch is something which is being looked at, so hopefully we get back on top of that and start next season well and win our first game at home.

“We want to make Brisbane Road a tough place to visit rather than people seeing it as a day out and taking points off us and enjoying themselves.”
