A jobs fair attracted 160 residents looking to get advice on finding work and coping with changes to the benefits system.

The event helped people come up with stand-out CVs and put them in touch with employment agencies, as well as those which could help with training and financial advice.

Held at the Tarling East Community Centre in Martha Street, Shadwell, it was organised by Tower Hamlets Council’s employment and skills service and Jobcentre plus.

Tower Hamlets Mayor Lutfur Rahman said: “While we’ve made progress with our employment rate, we can’t afford to be complacent and it’s great that so many people turned up to find out how we, and our partners, can help.”

Also in attendance on September 30, was cabinet member for housing Cllr Rabina Khan, pictured trying her hand at tiling at building firm Chigwell Construction’s stand.
