A JOBS fund has been launched to create 100 new jobs for long term unemployed young people in Tower Hamlets to help them get a first step on the careers ladder.

The Future Jobs Fund will give jobseekers aged between 18 and 24, who have been out of work for more than 39 weeks a six month paid placement and the chance to study for a relevant qualification.

The scheme has been funded by a 650,000 Government grant as part of a joint bid made by four of the Olympic Host Boroughs.

The council will also contribute another 273,000 towards the scheme from the Working Neighbourhood Fund.

Applicants for the programme will be referred by Jobcentre Plus and the first 15 placements will start mid-November at Whitechapel Arts Gallery, Tower Hamlets Homes, NHS Tower Hamlets and within Tower Hamlets Council's transport section.
