As we’ve entered 2021 we continue to be challenged by the impact of Covid-19. Now is not the time to let our guard down and we must all play our part to stop the spread of the virus.

I’m delighted that the vaccine is now here and urge everyone to get a jab. You will be contacted when it’s your turn starting with the most vulnerable. We’re arguing that ‘key workers’ get higher priority, as without them being safe many vital services, and not just health, will suffer.

I keep making the case to government for the support the East End needs. Whether it’s been asking for laptops so children can learn or calling for Universal Credit not to be cut I’ll keep asking for this.

We’re also busy discussing and hopefully agreeing my budget proposals. Despite over a decade of government austerity and further cuts to our budget it still protects free school meals, our council tax reduction scheme, investment in police officers, our Tackling Poverty Fund, and lots more. But I’d be kidding you if I said it was pain free.

We will keep doing our bit in the town hall to protect the services that matter most.
