The experienced manager reflected on what went wrong for his side in E10 on Saturday

Barnet boss John Still bemoaned 10 minutes of negative play as the reason behind their 3-1 loss at Leyton Orient on Saturday.

The National League contest saw the unbeaten O’s host London rivals Bees with the visitors entering the match on a five-match winning streak.

And goals from Josh Coulson, James Dayton and Macauley Bonne cancelled out a fine strike by Wes Fonguck’s to give Justin Edinburgh’s team all three points.

Still said: “For an hour we were excellent and outstanding. We spoke at half time about being away from home and if they were to score first in the second half then the crowd would lift, but if we scored first the crowd might get at them a little bit.

“I thought we were in reasonable control of the game, but 10 minutes of negative play, like square passes in our own half when we don’t need to play square passes, gave them the opportunity to score goals against us.

“They are a good side, but so are we and we haven’t got all of our options available to us because of injuries, so we have to be sensible in the way we play and we were.

“And then all of a sudden we become negative and played into their hands and they made full value of that and won the game.”

The period of play Still is referring to occurred in the 68th minute when Barnet gave the ball away in midfield and seconds later Craig Clay had set up Dayton to curl in O’s second goal.

It gave Orient the momentum and soon after they wrapped the game up when captain Jobi McAnuff beat his man on the left and cut back for Bonne.

Although the forward saw his first effort hit the post, it rebounded back to him and he slotted home to secure a 3-1 win which makes it 11 unbeaten in the National League for the O’s.

“There were lots of positives, but this game is about one thing and it is winning football matches,” Still said.

“We are not Barcelona, Manchester City, Inter Milan or Paris Saint-Germain, we are Barnet and we have to play as a team from the start to the finish because we haven’t got individuals who can win games on their own, so the team has to function.

“For an hour the team functioned, but with the greatest of respect that’s not good enough. It is not enough.”
