Summer signing impressed with showing of the O’s back four at Globe Arena and wishes Dean Cox ‘all the best’
Leyton Orient forward Jordan Bowery was full of praise for the rest of his team-mates after Saturday’s fine victory at Morecambe.
The former Rotherham United forward netted the winning goal at Globe Arena in the 55th minute via a deflection.
Liam Kelly had put Andy Hessenthaler’s men in front, but Kevin Ellison cancelled it out four minutes after half time.
Bowery had the final say on proceedings, although hailed the effort and fight of the O’s squad at the Shrimps.
He said: “Coming to Morecambe in the wet conditions and obviously with them top of the league, we knew we had to fight and I think it was a well deserved three points.
“Defensive from front to back we looked comfortable apart from the goal, which was a misunderstanding, but we bounced back terrifically.”
Even though Orient weren’t able to keep a clean sheet, the back four looked the best it has all season.
Callum Kennedy replaced Sandro Semedo at left-back and in the process made his first appearance in League Two this year.
After signing from AFC Wimbledon in the summer, the former Swindon Town youngster had to wait a while for his opportunity.
But having impressed against Fulham and Stevenage in recent encounters, Kennedy deserved his chance and grasped it.
Right-back Nicky Hunt delivered an excellent display and Yvan Erichot looked much more assured. Tom Parkes, despite making an error for the equaliser, continued his recent consistent performances.
Bowery added: “The back four was solid, I thought they were terrific and we didn’t really look like conceding apart from the one mistake.
“Those mistakes happen, especially in this division, but I thought we were brilliant overall.”
Orient’s performance ensured they ended the week on a positive note after waving goodbye to Dean Cox on Thursday.
The winger left Brisbane Road by mutual consent having scored once in five appearances this season.
“I didn’t know him for that long, but he has been here for many years and been a big part of the club,” said Bowery.
“Obviously it is tough for the fans to see him go and we wish him all the best for the future.”
Losing a player of Cox’s undoubted quality is a big blow to the east Londoners, but they showed on Saturday the strength of their squad.
Hessenthaler didn’t need to use one substitute at Morecambe and Bowery said: “We have got class all over the pitch.
“We can change the team if we want so we’ve got a strong squad. It is not going to be too much of a loss because we have strong players all over the pitch. We know we’re a strong team so we just need to keep pushing on.”
