The centre back won promotion from this league in 2014 with Cambridge United and can’t wait for the season to start

Josh Coulson insists Leyton Orient have a job to do at Salford City on Saturday in the opening game of the new National League season.

The O’s will head to Moor Lane in the unusual position as so-called underdogs according to the bookies’ with the Ammies favourites to win the title and triumph this weekend.

Centre back Coulson admits it is irrelevant to Justin Edinburgh’s squad, but acknowledged everyone in the camp can’t wait for the 12.30pm kick-off on BT Sport to get underway.

He said: “It is a massive game between two very big clubs in this league. I am sure there will be a good atmosphere, but we are going there to do a job and come home with three points, so we’ll see what happens.”

There has been a lot of talk about Salford this summer with the new boys signing a number of players with Football League experience.

It is a case of deja vu for Orient, who were in a similar position this time last year, although after going down – not winning promotion like the Greater Manchester club have.

But Coulson added: “Everyone knows what Salford have done, but we will go about our own business and concentrate on ourselves.

“Hopefully we can get a result and we can play in front of a big crowd too and show everyone what we’re about.”

Not only will there be plenty of spectators at Moor Lane, but the BT Sport cameras will also be present and like last season, Orient’s first game of the season will be live.

The O’s are used to it now after they were shown on BT Sport five times during the 2017/18 campaign, but there is something one of their players doesn’t enjoy too much.

“We are used to playing on the TV, but I can’t get used to a 12.30pm kick-off I’m not going to lie,” joked former Cambridge United defender Coulson.

“Listen it is what it is. We will travel up the day before the game, prepare right and hopefully get a good result.”

A lot of Salford fans are expected to be in attendance with the club’s last home game of the past season attracting an attendance of 2,446 to see then-joint-managers Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley lift the National League North title.

But O’s supporters also travel in numbers, Coulson added: “We take a good away following so that helps us.

“We will try to stay strong and get a positive result. We will get chances in this league and we have just got to take them.

“We have prepared right with this pre-season and hopefully we can get off to a good start and see where we are.”
