The 19-year-old has improved his consistency this year and become a regular under O’s head coach Justin Edinburgh

Leyton Orient have rewarded Josh Koroma’s superb form with a new contract which will run until the summer of 2020.

The teenager had a deal with the O’s which lasted until the end of this campaign, but is now committed to E10 for an extra season.

In May, Orient triggered an option in Koroma’s contract to extend his terms for another year, but director of football Martin Ling did reveal soon after he was looking to add another season onto the attackers deal.

And this afternoon it has been confirmed and is just reward for the academy graduate, who has come on leaps and bounds in 2018.

Before Justin Edinburgh’s arrival on November 29 2017, the 19-year-old had started only four National League games and made a further eight substitute appearances.

Koroma, after showing his potential during the 2016/17 campaign, had struggled to kick on, but everything changed when Orient switched manager.

After scoring at Bognor Regis Town on January 13, the teen went on to become a regular in Edinburgh’s team and finished the term with six goals.

He continued this form into pre-season and finished as O’s leading goalscorer, but had to settle for a spot on the bench in some of the first couple of games this campaign.

Koroma didn’t moan, however, and got his head down and forced his way into the starting XI and netted in the 2-1 win at Maidstone United recently.

On Saturday, at home to Boreham Wood, the attacker was outstanding again and won the spot-kick which Macauley Bonne dispatched in the 1-0 win.

This new deal is fully deserved and great for O’s and the youngster, but team-mate Joe Widdowson did discuss the importance of keeping Koroma grounded last week.

He said: “We need to keep Josh calm because he can get a bit excited, but he has been very good.

“I was really pleased for him on Saturday. He was pretty special really and he did a lot of good things and was the match-winner for us.

“It was excellent from him and he just needs to make sure he keeps doing it and if he does, he has a good chance.”
