The 48-year-old highlighted the performances of Marvin Ekpiteta and Dan Happe after Saturday’s win at Concord Rangers

Justin Edinburgh saw plenty of positives from Leyton Orient’s 3-2 pre-season win at Concord Rangers on Saturday.

The O’s head coach conceded he was frustrated with their start to the game which saw them trail Sammy Moore’s Beach Boys by two goals after 13 minutes.

Orient mounted an impressive comeback, however, with Macauley Bonne grabbing a brace and Josh Koroma scoring the winner off the bench.

But Edinburgh chose to highlight the displays of young centre backs Marvin Ekpiteta and Dan Happe come full time.

He said: “Throughout the season we are going to have to learn how to come from behind, but I think the manner in which we were behind frustrated me really.

“They were soft goals, the first was a great strike (by Billy Knott), but to have that amount of room in the middle of the park frustrated me and allowed them to dominate us and put us on the back foot.

“I would say credit to our young centre backs though, because I thought they got dominated in the first half, but I said a few words at half time and what you want is exactly that response and second half performance and I’m delighted.

“I thought they were mature and marshalled the back line and it allowed us to be compact second half and to go on and win the game.”

The Concord team included a number of notable names with captain Knott plying his trade at Sunderland and Bradford City in the past.

Moore and Jack Midson both have previous links to AFC Wimbledon while Lee Minshull has played for Newport County and Sam Beasant has been with Cambridge United in recent years.

Danny Green has also represented Dagenham & Redbridge, Charlton Athletic and Luton Town during his career.

It was perhaps therefore no surprise Moore’s side showed their quality in the second minute when Knott fired home from range.

Concord made it 2-0 when Nana Boakye-Yiadom got in front of Dean Brill to head home a cross from Ryan Hayes.

Orient did eventually fightback with Bonne firing past Beasant from a tight angle after good work by James Brophy in the 31st minute.

It was 2-2 early in the second half when Bonne made the most of a mistake to tap home in the 56th minute and Koroma grabbed the winner with 83 on the clock.

Edinburgh added: “A lot of them Concord players have played in the National League or higher, so it is what we are going to come up against and we have purposely planned the pre-season so the opponents we face will get better as we go through.

“Concord showed that from Tuesday at East Thurrock United, but the pleasing thing is we have come from behind to win.”
