The 48-year-old discussed Saturday’s result, Dan Holman’s goal and why he is expecting Tranmere Rovers to remain near the top

Justin Edinburgh was pleased with the performance of recent recruit James Brophy during Leyton Orient’s 1-1 draw with Tranmere Rovers.

Ritchie Sutton put the visitors ahead at the end of the first half after heading home at the near post.

The O’s levelled the scores when Dan Holman’s poked effort from close range hit goalkeeper Scott Davies and ended up in the back of the net.

Both sides had further opportunities to win the game with Brophy creating several chances in the second half before he was replaced with 16 minutes left.

“I thought certainly in the second half Brophy took the game to Tranmere and was a constant threat,” Edinburgh told BBC London.

“He fatigued at the end, but he hasn’t played or started a match for a long time so I was mindful of that, yet he was always a threat and I am looking forward to working with him more in the future.”

Another January signing, Holman, took the headlines after opening his account for the O’s since joining on loan from Cheltenham Town.

The 27-year-old was quickest to react when Davies saved an effort from Macauley Bonne and scored in what was his third appearance for his new club.

Edinburgh said: “It was probably Dan’s least effective game for us, but he’s got a goal and that’s what he needed.

“He needed to get up and running, so I am pleased for him and that and the character of the players was a big bright point.”

Orient had to dig deep in the second half especially with Tranmere pushing for a winner in east London.

Rovers ended up hitting the post three times with O’s custodian Dean Brill having to show his class by making a string of saves.

It wasn’t completely one-way traffic though, with Jake Caprice producing a number of dangerous crosses while Holman had an effort cleared off line at the end of the first half and the east Londoners had various other long-range shots.

With Tranmere fourth and only four points off top spot, it was a more than respectable result and Orient’s head coach expects the away side to remain near the top.

Edinburgh added: “I think they are a good team and probably one of the best in the league. They are efficient and I said to our players they are very streetwise and know how to play the game.

“A lot of their players have had success and promotions so I don’t think they will be too far away come the end of the season.”

For Orient, after the 1-1 draw they remain 17th, but they have now moved six points clear of the bottom four.
