The O’s were forced to make a late change to their starting XI, but it failed to prevent them from securing a second consecutive 1-0 away win

Leyton Orient head coach Justin Edinburgh was extremely satisfied after watching his team secure a 1-0 away victory at Chester on Tuesday night and also hailed the performance of Dan Happe.

The teenager was named as a substitute at the Deva Stadium, but was forced to start the National League match when George Elokobi pulled up with a slight hamstring problem in the warm-up.

Happe, who hadn’t played from the off since the 2-1 win at Halifax Town on January 30, started slowly, but recovered well to keep a clean sheet as James Brophy scored the only goal of the game.

Edinburgh, when asked about Elokobi missing out, told BBC London: “It unsettled us a bit, George felt the hamstring he had injured earlier in the season and George being George, he wanted to play, but after a discussion we felt it wasn’t worth the risk.

“Credit to Dan because he wasn’t aware of the situation and probably only had six or seven minutes to prepare.

“I think it showed in his first five to 10 minutes, but credit to the boy because he showed great maturity to work his way back into the game and play a huge part of the back five keeping a clean sheet.”

Right-back Jake Caprice also impressed again, setting up the goal for Brophy with a fine cross from the right.

Since Sam Ling rejoined Orient earlier this month, the ex-Woking defender has delivered a number of consistent displays.

O’s boss Edinburgh added: “Jake obviously knows he has strong competition for his place right now and he has performed very well as has Josh Koroma in front of him.

“Again it was another fantastic performance from Josh and he took the game to the opposition, so there were a lot of very good displays and it’s pleasing for me and it’s competition we need.”

The Brisbane Road club could have won by more with Koroma testing the Blues on-loan goalkeeper Sam Hornby numerous times while Macauley Bonne missed a good late opportunity for the O’s.

It didn’t matter in the end though, as Orient moved eight points clear of the relegation zone and up to 15th in the table.

Edinburgh said: “I’m really pleased because I thought we controlled things well again and it was a terrific effort, especially with back-to-back away games and two long trips. It was another 1-0 victory and credit to the players because they were superb.”
