The Brisbane Road club begin the National League campaign on August 4 at Salford and Justin Edinburgh knows six of his starting XI

Leyton Orient head coach Justin Edinburgh believes he knows six of his starting XI for the National League opener at Salford City on August 4.

The O’s used only 15 players during their 3-2 pre-season victory at Concord Rangers on Saturday afternoon.

George Elokobi, Josh Coulson, Jobi McAnuff and Craig Clay all remained as unused substitutes, but can expect minutes at St Albans City tonight.

Speaking ahead of O’s last two pre-season games before August 4, Edinburgh said: “I am probably five away from knowing my team.

“I have six players in my head who will start at Salford and that is five headaches, but ones I want.

“The pleasing thing for staff and on the medical side is we are getting through games with no injuries and people are looking strong. We are finishing games strong, so that is a pleasing factor.”

Orient fans making the trip to Clarence Park this evening to watch their team take on National League South outfit St Albans City can expect to see a virtually different starting XI compared to last Saturday.

Elokobi, Coulson, McAnuff and Clay will probably start and so will Joe Widdowson, Josh Koroma and David Mooney.

Youngsters Shadrach Ogie, Ruel Sotiriou and Charles Clayden may also feature and Edinburgh has already admitted places are up for grabs.

After visiting the Saints, Orient will host League One opposition at Brisbane Road on Saturday in the shape of Southend United.

O’s head coach hinted he may look to select something close to his starting team at Salford against the Blues this weekend and so tonight may be a last opportunity for some to impress.

“No, there isn’t anything to read into the players I selected at Concord Rangers,” said boss Edinburgh.

“I think there were one or two things we wanted to look at in terms of partnerships and players, but we have planned this.

“It will be a totally different team on Tuesday, so we will see other players against St Albans and then we will probably look to start to nail down our team for the Southend game.”
