O’s head coach discussed the recent news and Danny Webb’s new role as development coach at Leyton Orient

Leyton Orient head coach Justin Edinburgh is thrilled a number of staff at the club have signed new deals to remain in E10.

Last Thursday (July 19), the O’s announced contract extensions for five key personnel which will keep them contracted with the National League side until the summer of 2020.

Director of football Martin Ling has put pen to paper along with assistant Ross Embleton, physio Ketan Patel and chief scout Steve Foster while Danny Webb has also agreed new terms.

Edinburgh is delighted about the news and thanked the owners Nigel Travis and Kent Teague for continuing to believe in the vision they have for the club.

The O’s boss said: “As a group you want continuity and a settled squad, settled staff and we have a vision.

“I know the board have a vision and they believe in what we are trying to produce and the staff are the same, and if we are all working with each other it shows good camaraderie for everyone connected with the club.

“So I am absolutely delighted the board made the decision and I am pleased for the staff too.

“I believe their work ethic and quality of work deserves this and we go into the season very focused and clear about what we want.”

Ling, Embleton, Patel, Foster and Webb all now have contracts which are in line with the deal Edinburgh signed in November 2017 – which will run until the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

The role of Webb has changed over the last few months and was confirmed by Orient last week.

During the first half of the 2017/18 season, the O’s youth-team was managed by the 35-year-old, but towards the end of the campaign Webb was handed more first-team responsibility by Edinburgh and Peter Gill took over the under-18s.

Webb’s official title at the club is now development coach after he was professional development phase lead coach during the past year at Orient.

He will be part of Edinburgh’s backroom staff on a match day and during the week, but the one-time boss will focus on the youngsters in the squad.

Players who have progressed to the first-team from the academy will be working closely with Webb to ensure they are developing and not “getting lost” at O’s.

“Danny is now more in with myself and Ross on a day-to-day basis and we have to be mindful of the fact we have some incredible young players at the club,” said Orient head coach Edinburgh.

“We don’t want to let them get lost. We want to make sure we have enough time to spend with them individually and collectively on the training ground and Danny’s knowledge and the pathway he has shown for young players into the first-team is fantastic and that’s why we have brought him closer to us to work alongside us.”

Given the success of the club’s under-18s, it seems Edinburgh is keen to promote as many ready youngsters as possible and knows Webb is the perfect man to help with this challenge.
