The O’s head coach explained why he is reluctant to make changes to his starting XI

Saturday will mark 10 months since Justin Edinburgh took over at Leyton Orient and like in his first home game in charge, he will be coming up against Sutton United.

The former Gillingham manager was appointed O’s head coach on November 29 and after losing away to Solihull Moors on December 2 in his opener, he faced the U’s next in his debut at Brisbane Road.

At the time Orient were without a National League win since the start of September, but returned to form with a 4-1 victory over Paul Doswell’s men and a repeat result this weekend would be welcomed.

If O’s can triumph at home to seventh-placed Sutton, it will keep them top of the table heading into October and extend their record-breaking start to the campaign.

When asked about the previous home encounter on December 9, Edinburgh said: “A lot has changed, but what we would do for that 4-1 scoreline again!

“We know it will be a very, very tough game. Sutton are a team of knowhow and when I say that I mean they are a team which knows how to win football matches.

“They have players who have had success, so we are fully aware of how tough it will be, but we go into it full of confidence.

“I am sure they are the same and we know everyone will want to stop our run, but we are determined to keep it going.”

Orient have now gone 13 games without defeat this season, which set a new club record for their best unbeaten run at the beginning of a league campaign.

The O’s achieved the feat after a 5-1 win at Braintree Town on Tuesday to cap a fantastic day for the club after youngsters Marvin Ekpiteta and Josh Koroma were called up to the England C squad for a game next month on October 10.

Ahead of hosting Sutton on Saturday, Edinburgh must now decide whether he sticks with the same starting XI or changes

He admitted: “It would be very difficult to take any player out of this team at the moment because whoever comes out might not get back in.

“Then they would be questioning me and saying I have cost them a place, so it is a really difficult decision and it is about keeping the balance right.

“After this Saturday, we go back to Saturday-Saturday, so that will give the players a chance to recover, but like I say, I will assess the Sutton game on its merit and the opponents and see where we go from there.”

Edinburgh finished: “We have a lot of players who are running with knocks, but it is very difficult to try and fix something that is not broken.”
