The former Stevenage man looked sharp and impressive at Harlow Town on Saturday

Leyton Orient head coach Justin Edinburgh believes Charlie Lee is looking ‘very fit’ ahead of the new season.

The midfielder missed most of the previous campaign after suffering anterior cruciate ligament damage to his knee.

Lee did return for the final three games of the season and clearly hasn’t been slacking in the summer after he produced a lively outing on Saturday at Harlow Town.

Edinburgh said: “Charlie looked very fit. From the end of the season up to now he has got himself into a fantastic condition.

“I am pleased for him because he has put in some real tireless work with the medical team and I was happy with his performance and he did look really fit.”

Also involved at Harlow were a number of youngsters with defender Shadrach Ogie starting at left-back.

Charles Clayden also featured from the off on the left and Brendan Shabani and Hector Kyprianou were both introduced in the second half.

Orient’s head coach was impressed with what he saw, adding: “I thought all four of them were excellent and really good against Harlow, so I am pleased.

“I’ve always said there is a pathway at Leyton Orient if you are good enough and judging their performances, they are young boys who have a long way to go, but there is good potential.”

The early signs seem positive for O’s heading into their second game of the summer on Saturday against Benfica B.

New recruit James Alabi will get another chance to improve his fitness and get into form and Edinburgh is pleased with the group at his disposal.

He added: “There is a really good togetherness in the squad. I said at the back end of last season we didn’t wholesale changes, but we needed some players to come in.

“We saw one of them at Harlow in James and I think he showed a lot of reasons why we brought him to the football club.

“We have good continuity in the squad, a very good spirit and we are not bedding in too many players, so we’ll look to hit the ground running.”
