The O’s head coach praised the hard work of his players after they ended their four game wait for a National League win

Leyton Orient head coach Justin Edinburgh hailed the effort of his players and the club’s fans after a hard-fought 2-1 victory at Halifax Town in the National League.

After four league games without a win, the east Londoners travelled to west Yorkshire looking to halt that run and they managed it.

First-half goals from Macauley Bonne and Josh Koroma earned the O’s all three points and moved them up to 17th in the table - five about the bottom four.

“They are incredible, our fans, they really are,” boss Edinburgh told the National League website.

“It is the second time they’ve come up here in the space of 10 days and that’s a lot of financial outlay.

“Again they were fantastic and they got behind the players and I’m glad we can all go home happy.”

Orient probably could have scored more than twice with Bonne, Dan Holman, Jobi McAnuff and Koroma all going close at the Shay.

When O’s leading marksman gave them the lead with 18 minutes played, the away side were unable to extend it and conceded an equaliser in the 32nd minute.

Tom Denton fired in after a dangerous cross from Josh MacDonald, but the 48-year-old was delighted with his team come full time.

Edinburgh added: “We had to work hard at all aspects of the game like defensively and competitively, but when the chances came we took them very well. It was a tough encounter, but we competed very well and just edged it in the end.

“Defensively we were resolute in the second half. We were very strong and stuck to the task and the whole back four and the goalkeeper played their part.”

After some encouraging signs on Saturday, Holman and Bonne again combined nicely last night.

It was the Cheltenham Town loanee who played Orient’s top goalscorer through to open the scoring at Halifax.

And it wasn’t the only time the strike duo caused the Shaymen problems, which left boss Edinburgh encouraged.

He said: “I’m pleased with the partnership. It’s starting to develop and it is only their second start together.

“Dan is a little bit short of match fitness, but I think they will be a real force once they get going.”

Koroma proved to be the match winner for Orient with his second goal in three games to reward the faith placed in him.

Bonne has been more of a regular in the O’s starting XI and netted his 17th effort of the season in all competitions.

Edinburgh added: “He is a cool customer and dispatched it really well. He had a lot of time to think about it, but showed great maturity and it was a really good finish and it put us in the lead.

“I was disappointed to concede when we did, but we got the second and managed to see the game out.”

The win boosts the confidence of Orient heading into Saturday’s FA Trophy third-round tie at league rivals Dover Athletic.
